About This Indicator

The Bitcoin Realized Price UTXO Age Bands chart overlays BTC price against 13 modeled realized-price lines, one per UTXO age cohort. Real per-cohort UTXO realized-price data (what coins of a given age last transacted at, on average) is only available from paid on-chain data vendors — no free source publishes it. Each line here is instead a rolling simple moving average of price, with the window length matched to that cohort's day-equivalent age range (e.g. the 6m-12m line is a ~273-day SMA), which approximates the average price paid by coins that last moved within that window. Shorter-age lines hug price closely; longer-age lines smooth into slow-moving support/resistance references, similar in spirit to a HODL Waves chart but for realized price instead of supply share.

  • Calculation: modeled proxy, not real on-chain cohort data. Each age band is a trailing simple moving average of price over that cohort's day-equivalent midpoint (1, 4, 19, 60, 135, 273, 456, 639, 913, 1460, 2190, 3103 and 3650 daily closes) — computed entirely from existing price history, no separate external data source required.

Treat the solid portion as an approximation of the real metric's shape, and the dashed portion as an approximation of an approximation.
  • Bitcoin Supply Unmoved 4+ YearsTracks the share of Bitcoin's circulating supply held in addresses that have not moved coins in over 4 years, alongside Bitcoin price. This "dormant supply" grows as long-term holders accumulate and hold through market cycles, and tends to fall when old coins get spent, which has often coincided with distribution near cycle tops. Real UTXO age-band supply data, sourced from Bitview (Bitcoin Research Kit), a free public on-chain analytics API — not a proxy or model.
