About This Indicator
Bollinger Band Width (BBW) measures how far apart the Bollinger Bands are, relative to the 20-day average price: (upper band − lower band) ÷ middle band × 100, with bands set 2 standard deviations from the 20-day SMA. Bitcoin's biggest moves usually start after volatility has compressed, so a BBW reading at or below the red squeeze line marks a "volatility squeeze". Dashed yellow vertical lines with a green arrow mark the first day of each squeeze (BBW falling to the red line, at least 10 days apart) — the buy setups. A squeeze signals that a large move is likely, not its direction. The source chart also shows red arrows, but their rule is not published, so only the buy setups are drawn; the threshold and spacing are approximations.
